Slides that were not self-sufficient, but were contingent upon a relatively large amount of description in order to allow for interpretation. Slides of this type often tended to present information, and were associated with educational traditions, for example. They tend to be characterised by average scenic complexity; they were designed to be projected with comments and / or the reading of printed texts often supplied by the manufacturer. They are also defined by their orientation towards a professional market, their public exhibition context, and the combined use of visual and scientific traditions to present their contents. According to the variability in the scientific field, informative magic lantern slides can be grouped into twelve types: astronomical, microscopic, zoological, botanical, technological, health, agricultural, anthropological, geographical, artistic, historical and religious.
