Slides that relied upon accompaniment by forms of performance other than spoken lectures or upon broader contextual connections with other forms of performance, such as music hall. These slides have all in common the combined use of visual, literary-lyric, literary-major dramatic, literary-minor dramatic and musical traditions to represent the contents recorded on their images. According to the variability in these traditions, magic lantern slides can be grouped into three types: burlesque, dramatic and musical.
